Canon announced today their new entry level DSLR, the Rebel T2i (or EOS 550D). Many of the features recently introduced in the Canon 7D have made their way down to the ‘entry level’ camera. Rather quickly I might add as I’m now a frustrated owner of the 7D.
Canon positions this camera between the 7D and the 50D. But there are rumors that a 60D will be soon announced. But I’m not sure what that would look like now that this camera has been released.
Why? Well, look at the comparison below. Everything with a ‘?’ mark is only because that information is not published to date. Will update when they release the full specifications.

The following features seem to be the defining difference between the 7D and T2i:
- Dual Digic 4 processors (Need to find why this is better. Is it for high ISO image processing? Just for speed boost to get the fps?
- 7D’s New AF System
- Magnesium alloy / Stainless steel alloy
- AF micro adjustment capability
- Quick control dial
- Custom settings on control dial
- Built-in wireless flash control

The biggest question for me is how long can the t2i record video? The 7D gets 30min. ish of footage non-stop while nikons D300s can only do 5min. Will the lack of Dual Digic 4 processors affect the video quality? I'm a Nikon shooter but i'm seriously considering buying a 7D or now a t2i for the video options alone.
@sentrosi
According to the user manual on the 7D, the video clips are actually limited by a 4GB size limit, so about 12 minutes. Also, the usage needs to monitored for overheating of the sensors (video only). The camera has a built in shut down mechanism if it gets to hot, but the manual states not to rely on the camera to do so, or at least not very often (I guess they are saying the damage may already be done?).
Good question on the affect of the Dual Digic 4 on video quality and maybe also on low light capabilities. I was thinking it was the only way to get 8fps compared to 3.6.
BTW, I love my 7D except for one thing and that is Auto Focus in low light situations. Killing me!!! Just not getting the focus quick enough in dimly lit rooms or even at all in really dark situations…..ugh! And that is even shooting with the 50mm 1.2L for the record.
